James Martin serves as an executive vice president and is located in the firm’s Washington, DC and New York City offices.
Mr. Martin rejoined the firm in 2011 after having been recruited to a client, Howrey LLP, where he served as Chief Recruiting Officer and as a member of the firm’s Senior Management Committee. Mr. Martin coordinated and implemented the global strategic lateral recruiting, acquisitions, and integration of the firm. He was previously with DHR for six years as Chairman of the Global Legal Search Group. Under his leadership, the Washington, DC office grew to be the most productive office after the firm’s Chicago headquarters.
Mr. Martin’s background in management consulting and executive search includes a broad spectrum of senior positions in nearly all industries.
Prior to DHR International, Mr. Martin enjoyed a long career as President and CEO of J.W. Martin, Inc., which consulted with the financial community in electronic banking, facility planning, marketing and development. There he expanded the consulting concept to a virtual organization and packaged a variety of vendors to provide design-build, turnkey solutions for a total financial retail delivery system. J.W. Martin, Inc. achieved and maintained 30% annual growth over twelve years. Concurrently, Mr. Martin served as Founder and Board Member for Commerce Bank to service the local business community. There he grew the bank to over $150 million in total assets and successfully negotiated the affiliation with Main Street Bank and BB&T CORP (NYSE).
A native of Alabama, Mr. Martin received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is extensively involved in the community, serving as a member of the Board of Directors and Finance counsel for the Archdiocese of the Military Services USA, former Board of Governors and President of the John Carroll Society of Washington DC, past member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of Wintergreen Partners, Inc., as well as a board member of the Wintergreen Nature Foundation.
